A Tradition of Excellence
Springbank Distillery stands as a testament to tradition and craftsmanship in the world of whisky. Established in 1828, it’s one of the few distilleries in Campbelltown, a region once renowned for its over 20 distilleries. Springbank is distinguished by its commitment to quality, community, and innovation.
Embodying Tradition
Springbank is recognized for its traditional distillation methods. Rather than relying on flashy marketing, it lets the quality of its whisky speak for itself. The distillery employs direct fire heat and worm tubs in part of its distillation process, a nod to time-honoured whisky making practices. It also sources barley from local farmers, bolstering the local economy, and reinforcing its community-focused ethos.
Diverse Whisky Styles
The distillery produces three unique whisky styles: Longrow, a heavily-peated variant; Springbank, a medium-peated version; and Hazelburn, an unpeated whisky. Its sustainable production reaches approximately 750,000 litres, spread across these three styles, with Springbank accounting for 80% of the volume.
Family-Owned Distillery
Uniquely, Springbank has been owned by the same family since its foundation. This sets it apart from most distilleries, which are typically owned by large corporations. Its enduring family ownership has allowed it to maintain its commitment to tradition and quality.
Innovation in Whisky Making
Despite its respect for tradition, Springbank isn’t averse to innovation. The distillery actively experiments with different types of cask finishes to create new whisky flavours and expressions. This innovative approach ensures the continual evolution of its whisky range.
Complex Flavour Profile
Springbank whisky is known for its complexity and power. It offers an oily, full-bodied profile, complemented by a fragrant and fruity aroma. Longrow boasts a smoky, peaty character, while Hazelburn, which is triple-distilled, offers a smoother whisky experience with notes of toffee and orchard fruits.
In summary, Springbank Distillery’s commitment to traditional whisky making, community involvement, and innovative practices make it a standout in the whisky world. Its diverse whisky styles and rare casks make it a compelling choice for whisky enthusiasts and collectors alike.
